Illegal mining in the Ashanti Region has caused water pollution, particularly in streams, rivers, and other open water sources. Pollution of water sources can have serious public health implications in communities that rely on these sources for drinking, cooking, and bathing and even livestock. Exposure to toxic chemicals can lead to a range of health problems, including skin rashes, respiratory issues, and even neurological damage. Additionally, villages lack functional health facilities due to lack of clean water. In some instances, patients are required to carry their own water to the health center even when they walk long distances to service centers. Most communities have unqualified teachers in primary schools, as trained teachers are reluctant to work in these areas due to inadequate amenities such as water.

DivineAid (formally Divine Waters Uganda) has been a Ryan’s Well partner since 2003, and are very experienced in all components involved in organizing and training a self-sustainable community. Ryan’s Well Foundation and our local partner in Northern Uganda, Divine Agency for Integrated Development (DivineAid), continue to concentrate our efforts in Lira District in order to improve the equitable distribution, effective usage, and maintenance capacity of WASH services in this area.

Partnership & Funding Requests

We wish we could help everyone but, unfortunately, we are already fully committed to projects with our current on-the-ground partners in the countries in which we work, and are unable to fund additional projects in new areas this fiscal year. We encourage you to check out other organizations actively providing WASH projects in your region of interest. All support of our current active projects this fiscal year is greatly appreciated.

Every effort is made to designate your funds as requested; however, if the specified project has become fully funded or unforeseen circumstances delay its start, we may allocate your donation to another important project.
