You have made a difference in the lives of children like Antony!

His mother used to walk five kilometers each day to collect contaminated water. Her children were often sick with diarrhea, parasites, typhoid.

With your generous help, we’ve raised $37,000 to build 32 rainwater harvesting tanks in the Kajiado region of Kenya. With clean water, children are healthier and school attendance goes up. Women no longer spend hours collecting dirty water, and have time for income-generating activities.

For children like Antony, clean water is hope for a better future. What a great gift you’ve given!

A Partner of Ryan’s Well since late 2007, POWER (Pastoralists Organization for Water and Environmental Research), formerly known as MEDEC, worked with women’s groups from this area who are organized as CIGs (Common Interest Groups) in identifying and then building the tanks. The CIGs were trained on tank and water management. The Maasai women were active participants in the building process.

Sanitation and hygiene awareness training are an important part of this project; families who receive tanks are encouraged to have proper latrines and handwashing facilities.

This project has two key goals: first, to lessen the negative health effects of drinking unsafe water. And second, to reduce the time spent collecting water so that families have more time for economic enterprise and generating an income.
