Donors

Dr. Jane Goodall has been a great source of support and inspiration for Ryan’s Well for many years. We are honoured to have Dr. Goodall as one of our long-time Patrons and are very happy to begin this water project in collaboration with her incredible work in Tanzania.

The Jane Goodall Tendaguru Wildlife Trust aims to protect endangered wildlife habitats in southern Tanzania. People of this region are engaged in every step of the process in order to create a sustainable environment and improve livelihoods. It is for the people of this region that the Trust seeks to improve conditions, reduce poverty and enhance environmental and human security through sustainable resource management in 7 area villages.

Access to safe water and sanitation are essential elements to building sustainable communities and improving lives for the future. The project area, south of Dar es Salaam on the eastern coast of Tanzania, is a predominantly rural area with over 95% of the population engaged in subsistence farming. There are no permanent rivers or water sources that can provide reliable water access. Women must often carry water for 5 to 6 hours or longer depending on the season.

The aim of this project is to provide a reliable and safe source of water supply to approximately 1,500 people in the area.

Activities:

  • Drilling and construction of 1 borehole
  • Construction and installation of a solar-powered water pump & solar panels as required
  • Water purification sand filter system and pipe network to provide access to the village
  • Community mobilization activities for training and maintenance

*Costs include (in Canadian dollars): water quality monitoring, hygiene education activities, water source committee training, project monitoring, reporting & partner coordination for WASH sustainability, all construction, drilling, materials and labour as required.
